Name: Emerald Lake
Located on the South Klondike Highway at kilometer 117.5 (mile 73.5), measured from Skagway, Alaska This lake in southern Yukon is notable for its intense green color, the color derives from light reflecting off white deposits of marl, a mixture of clay and calcium carbonate at the bottom of the shallow waters. I wish I was able to spend a little more time here but I was happy that the tour bus driver pulled over and let all of us out that wanted to photograph this beautiful, unique Lake. I was also fortunate to have great weather on this trip which helped me give justice to the stunning green water. This was one of my favorite scenic images from my railway trip through Alaska and the Yukon. I loved it so much, I featured it on my Christmas card for the year! ~C
